Artist Statement:
3D printing meets a traditional metalsmith’s reluctance to change! Pushing at barriers…breaking the plane...growth in spite of the efforts to suppress is what the Eye of Horus ring has come to symbolize for me. Designed back in 2017, this ring has evolved much like I have over the last 4 years. I finally experimented with computer rendered and manufactured jewelry after making this design many times using my typical handmade method: pierced out of sheet metal, layered, and soldered. Though I liked the results, I knew it could be more if I pushed at the design and my hangups. I love the result! This dramatic, architectural ring is printed in a brass/bronze, tarnish resistant alloy. The rhodolite garnet trillion has been set in a handmade sterling bezel, mixing up the metals and the processes in one artsy ring. Size 7, silver and gold options available.

Artist Bio:
Aalia Mujtaba is the designer and fabricator behind Metaalia Jewelry. Inspired by paisley patterns in South Asian textiles and geometric glaze work on Mesoamerican pottery, she combines the two in her jewelry designs to explore ideas of human connection, belonging, and identity. Using a mixture of traditional metalsmithing techniques, laser cutting and 3D printing, she creates mixed metal designs that are graphic and bold with rhythmic patterns and shapes. In 2020 she was a selected artist for New York City Jewelry Week’s “Here We Are” initiative, an outreach effort highlighting BIPOC jewelry designers around the country. Aalia has taught metalsmithing classes to adults at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center for 15 years. Her studio and home are in Clarkston, GA.
