Karin Jacobson - Faceted Globe Ring

Artist: Karin Jacobson
Materials: recycled sterling silver, recycled 22k yellow gold; 1.35ct Montana sapphire hexagon tablet
Size: 6.5
Dimensions: 33mm high x 3mm wide band

Artist Statement:
This ring is entirely hand fabricated in recycled sterling silver with a sapphire set in 22k yellow gold in the center of the open half-sphere. It was inspired by the concept of facets - the idea was to facet the metal, so that it would bounce the light and colors in the same way that faceted gemstones bounce light. When you look into the globe, you see the yellow of the gold and the greenish blue of the sapphire reflected on all of the interior facets of the ring!

Artist Bio:
My current collection is inspired by Origami. These designs push the boundaries of traditional jewelry to become small-scale wearable sculpture. I developed my folding technique to create pieces that have a graceful fluidity and big visual impact. Each piece is hand made, and focuses on ethically sourced materials, such as recycled metals and gemstones that are fair-trade, recycled, domestically sourced, or purchased from gem buyers who have direct relationships with miners from small, artisanal mines.
