Artist Statement:
The Bullseye Ring features a target made of brass and copper that has been set in a silver bezel over a magnet. Two magnetic arrows with heart shaped brass fletching can attach themselves to the top of this ring. My work is an interpretation of common icons and symbols and is meant to draw you into a world of play and make-believe. This ring is aimed at instigating play and giving a customizable experience to the wearer because you are able to change the appearance and composition of the ring.
Artist Bio:
Mia Kaplan is an artist who works primarily in jewelry and metalsmithing. She has received a BA in Studio Art from Earlham College. Mia worked as an intern Liberty Arts Sculpture Studio & Foundry in Durham, NC in 2016. She was also an intern at Brooklyn Metal Works through the New York Arts Program in 2017. Mia currently is in the Core Fellowship at the Penland School of Craft and works and lives in Penland, NC as a part of the Core program. She has most recently shown work through Secret Identity Projects with their show Amend and in the show Essential Work at Toe River Arts in Spruce Pine, NC.
