Michelle Zeidman - Under the Surface

Artist: Michelle Zeidman
Materials: sterling silver, enamel, copper
Size: adjustable 6.5+
Dimensions: ring face: 38 mm high x 30 mm wide x 4 mm tall (not including band), band width 5 mm

Artist Statement:
What lies beneath the surface? This ring evokes the grid of a stormwater grate and provides a glimpse of what lies hidden beneath our cities. It serves as a reminder that goes down the drain often makes its way into the Puget Sound potentially bringing harm to the wildlife and people that call its waters home. The calm blues and bright lime speak to the interplay between clean water and man-made substances.

Made of copper and enamel, this ring’s champleve centerpiece is tab-set in sterling silver with an adjustable size band. The copper is blackened with patina and the enamel has been sanded by hand to a matte finish. The sterling silver setting is satin-finished for a matte appearance. Made on rainy days in Seattle.
