Roozbeh Rastegar - Artemis Ring

Artist: Roozbeh Rastegar
Materials: sterling silver, fine silver, enamel
Size: 9.5
Dimensions: 45 X 15 mm

Artist Statement:
Through the use of the Optical Illusion theme, Roozbeh is saying that facts and reality are not necessarily exposed to the audience on the initial viewing. In this collection, on a totally flat surface, he creates a 3-dimensional quality to trick the viewers' eyes. waiting for the "AHA'' moment, when the audience realizes that what they see is not what they thought it was at the beginning, he is suggesting not to always accept what one sees at first glance.
This ring is one of piece of “Optical Illusion” collection. It made of sterling with an enameling part. Roozbeh used anticlastic rising technique to hand fabricate this ring. It is hollow and hand forged. It has a triangular profile in one end transitioning to the flat side on the other end. On the triangular side, there is a actual 3-D pyramid but on the flat end there is a flat triangle with enameling on it trying to imitate the 3-D side. For making such a difficult shape I made several prototypes out of brass and silver before.

Artist Bio:
Roozbeh Rastegar was born into an artisan family in Tehran, Iran. Unlike his family, he first studied mathematics in high school and then ceramic engineering at university.
