Raphaëlle Léaux - Finger's rock!

Artist: Raphaëlle Léaux, Belgium
Materials: bronze, slate, ebony wood, resin
Size: 6
Dimensions: 43mm, 4.50mm

Artist Statement: Unique sand casted ring made in the Belgium countryside in the course of 2021. I had never tried this ancestral jewellery technique and was a bit frustrated in the beginning to see all my essays going wrong. Then, after days and dozens of essays pouring melted metal in sand, this ring came out and it was worth all the effort. A piece of slate was lost in process so I decided to replace it with that beautiful wood that is ebony.

Artist Bio: Passionate about visual arts since childhood, Raphaëlle Léaux was trained in drawing and sculpture from the age of 12 both in private workshops and academies in Brussels. At 16, she joined the art school Saint-Luc where she graduated with a degree in Art de l’image. After training in fashion design and sociology, she worked as a stylist, librarian, art model and artistic animator, while training herself in parallel with lost wax jewellery from 2010. In March 2017, she met the visual artist and photographer Tekahem who introduced her to photography during a trip across Euro pe. Since 2020, she has deepened her jewellery expertise at the RHoK Academie in Brussels.
