Anne Wolf | Mokume Hideaway

Artist: Anne Wolf, California
Materials: sterling silver, copper, brass
Size: 9.5

Artist Statement: Whimsy is not normally the first word that comes to mind when describing my work. My custom mokume gane rings are simple but classic bands; made exactly to each customer's specifications. My 'larger' works, vessels and boxes, are generally restrained, symmetrical, quiet objects. But every now and then, I am inspired to break out and go a little crazy.

Mokume Hideaway is a place to escape to, to draw and daydream, free of the cares and responsibilities of everyday life. This slightly quirky construction is loosely based on the traditional gassho-zukuri thatch houses in the Gifu region of Japan.

Artist Bio: I earned my Masters of Fine Art in Jewelry/Metals at San Diego State University, and taught jewelry/metals at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA for 10 years. I have been working with mokume gane since 2007, studying with and learning from many masters in the field including James Binnion, Ford Hallam, and Hiroko Sato-Pijanowski. I create custom mokume gane wedding rings, jewelry and mokume gane vessels and boxes. My mokume gane patterning techniques range from chisel to stamping and twisting, drawing inspiration from the complex patterns and texture found in nature. My work has been shown across the U.S. and in venues such as the Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus in Hanau, Germany and the Tsubame Industrial Materials Museum in Tsubame, Japan.
