Susan Richter-O'Connell | This Poppy Rocks

Artist: Susan Richter-O'Connell, Wisconsin
Materials: sterling silver, Lake Michigan sandstone
Size: 7

Artist Statement: This piece is my interpretation of traditional gem stone carving techniques that I have reimagined on a nontraditional gem. This one of a kind ring with a hand carved Great Lakes sandstone is intentionally set high and proud with a balled wire rivet stamen which encourages the flower to spin freely on its pedestal.

Artist Bio: I am a forager and beach stones and other found objects have been a predominant voice in my work. I am motivated to explore ways in which to elevate that which is often overlooked, taken for granted or considered worthless. To bring unity and balance to an often disparate collection of elements as succinctly as possible is endlessly challenging.
