Artist Bio: "Hi, I’m Theresa Applegate; metalsmith, artist, and educator. My work is inspired by natural textures, patterns, collected objects, and is hand-crafted in my home studio. I primarily work in metal fabrication and casting but I love exploring different media such as book art, ceramic sculpture, and mold making. My work vacillates between sculptural and functional; always connected to observation, oriented by process, and varied in scale.

I am an animal lover and collector of curiosities. I find so much beauty in the natural world and strive to capture and preserve it in my artwork. Things that may seem strange to some intrigue me. Many of the objects and creatures I collect I find repulsively mesmerizing. I enjoy the dichotomy; the push/pull quality of the concept, the grotesque nature of the decaying reality of the object juxtaposed with the eternal and ethereal finish of metal.

I taught high school visual art for twelve years, including courses in ceramics and jewelry. Recently I became a full time studio artist! I enjoy traveling, scuba diving, raising butterflies, adventurous food, and spending time with my husband Chase and two children; Ezra and Rumi."
