Artist Statement: The constructed spaces in my works vibrate with vitreous enameled colors that connect dynamic shapes with emotions. Through complex fabrication and composition, bursts of energy are revealed and amplified through the juxtaposition of form and surface, planes and frames. Individual experience affects associations between color and feeling. Through my research into the optical and psychological effects of color, I invite the audience to respond to these abstract interactions. I use cloisonné technique to achieve rich color and optical patterns. Beyond this, the work engages the audience with playful movement and interaction, experienced through wearing.

Artist Bio: Yifei Kong is originally from Beijing, China. She is a metalsmith and enamelist. She received her BFA in Metal from SUNY New Paltz, NY. Currently a first year in the Craft/Material Studies MFA program in Virginia Commonwealth University.
