Three Golden Square Earrings with Prehnites

This family of earrings were inspired by a booklet of 23 K goldleaf sheets, purchased many years ago, when I lived in Italy. Those gold leaf sheets are too thin and fragile for my work, but they have a gorgeous orange yellow hue that glows, and that color is what I want to share. In these earrings, I used 23K gold foil that I roll out by hand, stronger than both leaf gold and commercial foil. The 23 K gold foil is diffusion bonded to the silver by an ancient Korean technique called keum boo - “attached gold”. (My favorite technique.) I gave these earrings a fine mesh texture, which makes the gold glow even more, reminding me of my gold leaf sheets and of beautiful fall colors.
These earrings are part of LOBES: An Invitational Earring Show on display in the Danaca Design Gallery Showroom through December 24, 2023. View the entire collection online HERE.
