Introduction to Decorative Metal Inlay - Lines, Dots and More

Prerequisites:
No experience necessary however basic metals working skill helpful
Class Description:
Metal inlay techniques are almost as old as metalworking itself, and were highly developed by the Late Bronze Age. In this class, students can learn the tricks to joining metals of differing colors and characteristics without the need for soldering or fusing, creating no firescale or associated issues. This allows for the creation of designs that take differential patinas to produce a wide variety of colors and vivid contrast
Material KITS INCLUDES:
- Required specialized chisels
- Drill bits
- Silver, copper and brass metals to practice inlay.
Students MAY Bring:
- If you already have them: bring fine sharpening stones, and small pin vices.
- Light chasing hammer (available in studio store)
- Fine flat file (available in studio store)
- Magnification (available in studio store)
Instructor Bio:
Bill Dawson came to art metals by way of blacksmithing at the University of Oregon. Since then he has been making a living with metalsmithing, both teaching and creating custom pieces for all manner of patrons. A close examination of metalwork of ancient cultures of Ireland has given Bill a deeper understanding of the character of the metal itself, as well as the aesthetics of the past.
