Artist: Cheryl Chudyk
Materials: Mixed Media
Dimensions: 8x8 in

Artist Statement:  I played with the idea of Alice in Wonderland in these pieces, large butterflies, flowers, and hand drawn young girls. I drew motifs from the fabrics with scissors and paper, and it was interesting when someone told me that the sound "nn" can have many meanings in Japanese, including "Yes, oh really?"

Artist Bio: Cheryl Chudyk is a Canadian collage artist currently based out of Seattle. She has a background in wedding photography, ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. She dabbles in painting, comics, and poetry, and by day she is a practicing pharmacist. Her collage work has been published in 3 publications from Kolaj Institute, {th ink}, Cults of Life, OLTRE, COOLAGE, transitional MOMENTS, and 6 issues of Cut Me Up Magazine, and she has exhibited her
work in the US, Europe, India, and Australia. She is the current president of The Northwest Collage Society, a member of @thecollageclub on Instagram, and co-curator and co-founder of Sharp Hands Gallery. She is a huge supporter of community within collage, always looking to make collaborative pieces and to create spaces for artists to come together. You can find her on Instagram as @stitchpixie.

Fabric Motif: The sunflower is associated with sun, warmth, happiness and longevity. In northern Japan, a stunning sight is fields of yellow sunflowers that stretch as far as the eye can see.

This piece is part of the Yukata Inspired 2024, a collaborative exhibition between Okan Arts & Danaca Design featuring metalwork and collage. Learn more and view the entire collection HERE.
