Claire Ramsey - Yukata Flower Pendant
Artist: Claire Ramsey
Materials: sterling silver, new-old-stock Burma rubies, watercolor paper, paints, resin
Dimensions: 1 1/2" x 3"
Artist Statement: The yukata I received displays lily-like flowers in pink, purple, and yellow, with sharp thin leaves in green. During the long days of the pandemic I started taking watercolor classes online, and recently learned how to fade a color from bright to very watered down. The yukata flowers are printed in a similar style, so I painted, then resined Arches paper, and sawed a cut-out of a flower. To make it fancy I added Burmese rubies, purchased at an online auction from a 3-generation jewelry business that was closing down.
Artist Bio: I am a retired university professor, and an unrepentant collector of little treasures. I harbor fond memories of travels and residencies abroad, from the days when traveling was possible. I live in hope that I can resume my explorations of the world. Meanwhile, the treasures are finding new homes in jewelry, mostly pendants and pins.
