Anne Wolf of Anneville Studio and Danaca Design, in conjunction with the Seattle Metals Guild have opened a silent auction for a spectacular piece from the exhibition! This exceptional dish was made by Anne Wolf with a large piece of mokume-gane created by Phill Baldwin, donated by Layne Goldsmith.
Philip Baldwin's favorite place to teach was Penland School. He was regularly invited to give workshops in the Blacksmithing studio and looked forward to spending time with students and friends there. He also donated regularly to the annual Penland Auction and supported a number of his studio assistants to take workshops there to further their own artistic development.
Layne Goldsmith, his widow, has been working to set up a Scholarship Endowment in Phillip's name. This endowed scholarship will provide support for students in ironsmithing, blacksmithing, and/or metalsmithing, paying for their tuition, housing, and materials for a workshop at Penland School.
100% of funds raised by the silent auction will be donated. In addition, Danaca Design will donate 5% of all exhibition sales towards Layne's effort to create this opportunity for future metalsmiths.
