Sunflowers - One Side Will Make You Grow Taller, and the Other Side will Make You Grow Shorter
Artist: Cheryl Chudyk
Materials: Mixed Media
Dimensions: 8x8 in
Artist Statement: I played with the idea of Alice in Wonderland in these pieces, large butterflies, flowers, and hand drawn young girls. I drew motifs from the fabrics with scissors and paper, and it was interesting when someone told me that the sound "nn" can have many meanings in Japanese, including "Yes, oh really?"
Artist Bio: Cheryl Chudyk is a Canadian collage artist currently based out of Seattle. She has a background in wedding photography, ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. She dabbles in painting, comics, and poetry, and by day she is a practicing pharmacist. work in the US, Europe, India, and Australia. She is a huge supporter of community within collage, always looking to make collaborative pieces and to create spaces for artists to come together. You can find her on Instagram as @stitchpixie.
Fabric Motif: The sunflower is associated with sun, warmth, happiness and longevity. In northern Japan, a stunning sight is fields of yellow sunflowers that stretch as far as the eye can see.
