Robin Valentine | Danse Macabre
Artist: Robin Valentine, MA
Materials: sterling silver, moonstone
Size: 9.5 (Can't be resized)
One of a kind
Artist Statement: The first thing you may notice about the Danse Macabre is the skull peering out through the moonstone set atop the coffin, like the stained-glass window of a mausoleum. There's no one inside, though, because underneath the coffin there's a wreath of "dancing" bones that spin all the way around. This ring was made in the spirit of the phrase "memento mori" reminding us all to dance while we still can, because we'll all end up in the same place one day.
Technical Process Info: This ring was entirely hand fabricated using basic jewelry making techniques such as piercing, sawing, filing, folding, soldering, etc. as well as somewhat advanced techniques like the hinge and ball catch of the coffin.
Artist Bio: Robin is a mostly self-taught multi-disciplinary artist who favors metal and stone above all else. They enjoy the process of creating "something from a whole lot of nothing" and watching the metal take form and turn into tiny wearable sculptures. Their journey into metalsmithing began in 2015 and has always included their interest in the occult and macabre. Skulls, coffins, and medieval weaponry are some of their favorite one-of-a-kind pieces to produce.
This ring is part of Battle of the Rings: Ring Smackdown 2025, an online exhibition and competition. All the rings are available for purchase, view the entire collection HERE, view the matches HERE, and learn more HERE.
