Artist Statement: Inspired by the explosion of tree blossoms in my neighborhood that mark the passage of spring, Blossom literally grew out of my previous year's submission to Battle of the Rings and evolved into a much more mature and sophisticated version of a ring. Ergonomically designed to conform around the hand with comfort in mind, Blossom is made from cast twigs and blossoms that were shaped, twisted, soldered, teased, and cajoled through many iterations until a final version arose that felt and looked right.

Artist Bio: Lisa Markowitz is a scientist and jeweler whose work is grounded in her deep love of nature and its infinite forms. When not at her bench, she can be found rummaging along the many paths and wooded areas in her home town of Reston, examining specimens and finding inspiration for her next pieces.
