Artist Statement: Oversize Load is a small car crafted from reclaimed silver, featuring etched imagery from photos of various textures. Its wheels are made of bezel set hematite, symbolizing endurance, balance, and strength. The piece represents carrying around heavy physical and mental burdens, while others cautiously maneuver around in avoidance. The ring rolls, and is worn upside down, symbolizing the feeling of being tipped over. The wheels can be removed and worn as earrings.

Artist Bio: Emily Joyce is a vitreous enamellist, sculptor, and art studio instructor from Cleveland, Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Enameling from The Cleveland Institute of Art and earned a Master of Arts Education from Case Western Reserve University. Emily’s work is a thoughtful balance of playfulness and humor from her experience as an educator and student. She is currently interested in exploring the mechanisms of simple machines found in playgrounds.
