Artist Statement: Water is the essence of life. It is within our cells, inside the Earth's rocky crust, and covers three-quarters of its surface. Seattle experiences all types of water: salt, fresh, snow, and rain. As a Seattleite, I flourish among the raindrops, a water baby who has been in, on and around water for my entire existence. I have spent half of my life teaching both scuba and swimming, involved in canoeing and sailing, and spent six weeks aboard a research ship. Water is visually mesmerizing and Japanese Fabric reflects the same. These variations on how we literally see and interpret water is limitless. We view it as forms, lines, textures, movements, and reflections. These elements are captured within the very essence of these earrings, which features movement, sparkle, line, form, depth, and a wee bit of opal magic. I imagine that viewers will seek the mystical properties locked within them.

Artist Bio: I am a native Northwestner and have been chased physically and visually by the NW landscapes, mountains and waterways. (Nature has always been foremost in my life) Being a metal/jewelry art teacher for decades and involved in all aspects of art, these have influenced my evolving design concepts and work. I create a sense of layering and diversification both visually and symbolically in my pieces. At times, I endeavor to capture fragments of ideas from microscopic images and textural photographs. In all, I enjoy the challenge of pushing my limits of technical expertise, materials and edgie ideas.
