Reka Simon | Inner Freedom
Artist: Reka Simon, Hungary
Materials: brass, glass, pigment
Size: 8
Artist Statement: I like to play. I like rings. Most of my work is about rings, for some reason I am very attracted to them. I mostly make narrative jewelry that has something to say. This ring was made in 2023, its title is "Inner freedom", which for me symbolizes that no matter what the outside world or the external circumstances of the individual, a person can preserve his/her inner, spiritual freedom of movement. The glass ball enclosed in a metal frame can move freely, even in a narrow space, which is the embodiment of our inner world. The wearer of the ring can enjoy the experience of setting the ball in motion.
Artist Bio: For me, goldsmithing is like a game with materials, shapes, and colors. I like to work with different materials and textures and observe how they interact with each other. I love the perfection and at the same time simplicity of geometric shapes, and how much can be expressed through them. I studied metalwork at the Szimultán Art School Budapest between 2016 and 2022.
This ring was part of Battle of the Rings: Ring Smackdown 2024, an online exhibition and competition. View the entire collection HERE, view the matches HERE, and learn more HERE.
