Evan Dent | Unbounded
Artist: Evan Dent, Nevada
Materials: sterling silver, bowlerite (bowling ball)
Size: 8
Artist Statement: "I have been pondering our time in this world and the choices we make to shape our lives. The way that we are tied to history, but constantly trying to readjust those ties and find our own place in the world.
The silver from this ring comes from a set of antique silverware that was passed down to me by family. I like that there are generations of people that have a history with the silverware, and in turn are remembered by this piece. Cherished objects that were warmed by many hands, get to interact with new hands, in a new way.
The skull has been carved from a chunk of broken bowling ball, reminding us that pretty little surprises may be found in unassuming materials."
Artist Bio: Evan Dent lives in Las Vegas, Nevada and loves spending time with his spouse and two pooches. He teaches beginning and advanced jewelry classes at the College of Southern Nevada, and makes jewelry in his home studio. When not doing those things, he is looking for beautiful rocks or neat trash to make into rings.
This ring was part of Battle of the Rings: Ring Smackdown 2024, an online exhibition and competition. View the entire collection HERE, view the matches HERE, and learn more HERE.
