Kathy Kovel | Checker Ring

Artist: Kathy Kovel, Oregon
Materials:  sterling silver, brass, vintage wooden checker, modified camera lens, postage stamp, rhodolite garnet, green onyx, london blue topaz, opal, peridot.
Size: 7.25

Artist Statement: This ring features a vintage yellow checker piece, which I've altered by adding six tube rivets. The center tube is made of brass and contains a faceted citrine bullet. The side of the circle has eight bezel set stones. The underside of the ring has an owl peeking out from a cutout. The owl is from an old postage stamp and sits behind a camera lens I have cut and filed to fit this ring. There is a peridot set on the bottom of the band. This ring is entirely fabricated and has thirty-two solder joints.

Artist Bio: All of my work is fabricated in my studio in Portland Oregon. I enjoy making rings primarily, and mostly do one-of-a-kind pieces. My rings tend to be substantial in weight and size, preferring statement pieces. Found objects and beach plastic have also found their way into some of my pieces. I'm interested in re-purposing objects that may find new life in my jewelry. I have been making jewelry for over twenty years and am also a baker.
