Mio Toyoda | The Void Glass Ring
Artist: Mio Toyoda, Oregon
Materials: glass (rhubarb pink-green shift)
Size: 6
Artist Statement: I create one-of-a-kind rings using the ancient glass art technique 'Pâte de Verre' Fired in the kiln, creating fantastic flows of colors, followed by meticulous polishing through multiple stages to minimalist ring shapes. I infuse sculptural elements, letting you feel the serene cosmic glass colors on your finger. Each ring carries a poetic story, creating a dialogue with the wearer.
The Void Glass Ring: The inner side of the ring showcases geometric embossing, adding a dimensional aspect by revealing diverse shapes from various angles. It incorporates color-changing glass, transforming to rhubarb pink in sunlight and green under fluorescent light.
Artist Bio: Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Mio graduated from Tokyo Polytechnic University with a degree in Graphic Design. With over 15 years of experience as a graphic designer, she began her self-taught journey in kiln work in 2016. Under the brand "sushikatten," she has exhibited her contemporary jewelry at various events in Tokyo and is featured in unique specialty stores nationwide.
