Artist: Ting Lu, Georgia
Materials: sterling silver, buffalo horn, paua shell, cubic zirconia
Size: 6.5

Artist Statement: In 2023, 9 ethnic women were created for my "Women Around the Word" ring collection. Each ring represents a strong and yet delicate lady from a specific region during a specific time period. I love these ladies too much to separate any one of them from the collection. The solution is to create a twin sister of the original "Viking Warrior Princess" for the smackdown. So here she is!
The main material of the ring is sterling silver. A yellow Cubic Zirconia adorns the center of the helmet. The face is made from carved Buffalo horn, and the horns on the Viking helmet are carved Buffalo horn inlaid with New Zealand Paua shell, both from a Balinese artist.
Going forward, this collection is expected to grow with many more beautiful women around the world.

Artist Bio: Ting Lu joined the jewelry world as a maker, having spent her entire professional career as an engineer. Recently retired, I now work full time in my studio in Alpharetta Georgia. As a self-taught artist growing up, she experimented with many types of 2D/3D media. It was not until 2014 when she fabricated her first silver ring, her vision came into one focus.
The complexity and exploration thru the eyes of art, math, physics, and chemistry is exactly what she was looking for: I consider myself a 'jack of all trades' with a diverse set of jewelry making skills. To accompany metal, I often add to my jewelry with unconventional materials. I love to challenge myself to engineer playful kinetic jewelry with movements, and multi-purpose jewelry pieces allowing more than one wearing options.

This ring is part of Battle of the Rings: Ring Smackdown 2024, an online exhibition and competition. Shop the entire collection HERE, view the matches HERE, and learn more HERE.

Rings from this collection will ship, or be available for pick up, after the competition concludes on March 29.
